What better way to get started with, come back to, or continue with your yoga practice than to celebrate National Yoga Month?! I know we're already a week or so into this celebratory month, but yoga is very much about the HERE and NOW; so we can start whenever and wherever we want - but it is totally fun to have a month dedicated to something as amazing as yoga.
No matter where you are in your yoga journey, it's nice to be reminded of why we practice. Maybe take some time to reflect on this, use it as a journal prompt...
Why do I practice yoga?
How do I feel when I practice yoga? Or how do I feel AFTER my practice?
For some people, their 'why' could be very personal - like building a better sense of self or appreciating your body or tuning deeply into the mind/body connection. But there are also MANY other benefits to practicing yoga.
"Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self." - The Bhagavad Gita
Benefits of a Yoga Practice
Like I've already said, there are so many benefits to practicing yoga; but if you need or like tangible lists (like me), then here's a short list of 'whys'!
build strength and flexibility in a more gentle way - though certainly still intense at times
form a community of like-minded people
explore your EDGE - meaning... have the chance to explore your mental and physical boundaries & achieve things you wouldn't think you could do
reduce stress
develop a better ability to focus throughout your day
create a mindset to help make healthier choices
So Let's Celebrate National Yoga Month!
If all of this sounds amazing - or even if you're unsure about it all - join me for a 30 day challenge in celebration of National Yoga Month! It will be a mix of journaling, asanas, pranayama, and meditation!
Why a 30 day challenge? Can't I just practice yoga like I normally do? Yes! Your yoga practice is exactly that... YOURS! The exciting part of a 30 challenge is that it takes our yoga practice a small step further. It's not meant to be something to sustain long term, but it is certainly a window into how yoga can be incorporated into your everyday life. We don't have to have an hour long vinyasa practice to "do" yoga. We don't have to meditate for an hour every morning to "do" yoga. Simply tuning into five breaths on your lunch break is a yoga practice.
I know it's a little unconventional to begin something after the month has started and even in the middle of the week... BUT this is only unconventional because of the mindsets we have around starting something new or fresh!
What we usually find in society is this idea of a new year, a new month, or a new week being the only time for us to start a new hobby or routine. In a lot of ways, this way of thinking can hold us back because we think we have to wait for some specific time or date to start something fresh. In reality, each and every day is an opportunity to begin anew.
